I am going to call this week’s episode the miracle episode. I call it this because it was the episode that almost didn’t happen. Ichigo let me know that he needed me to do the show cause he was going to be busy this last weekend, well that is normally all good and fine, except this time I was chillin with a 102 fever and a case of strep throat. Throw on top of that, that I accepted a new job, and then the icing on the cake the site goes down and this time it wasn’t getting back up before the 10 count. Ichigo really broke it this time, oh sure he claims it was the hosting company, but we all know Ichigo broke it. So with the site down, well the server, there was no email, couldn’t send out the email for the recording. We managed to get around that, I got better another hurtle cleared. Hell I even got Tim and Weltall on the show too. So with out further ado, the miracle on anime st. episode 155, go listen and enjoy.

Hi everybody, let me start off by saying that it’s good to be back, and even better that I don’t have to try and reconstruct any data.

So on the 6th I got this email from our hosting company

We will be performing a hardware upgrade on all of our nodes in our current Dallas location on Friday November 7, 2008. The upgrade window will take place from 1:00AM-3:00AM EST. During this time your server will be unavailable for up to 45 minutes.

I didn’t think anything of it until I noticed that the server was down when I checked at 9 AM Friday. I sent a support ticket and they told me that upon restart of the server (note that we’re on a VPS on a very, very large RAID array) it required a fsck.

So I went to my first movie in Japan. What was interesting about it was how much was similar and how much was just different enough.

The theater I went to was the Warner Brothers “Mycal” theater in the Aeon shopping center just down the street, a mile or so away. This was a 10 screen theater or so, and had a lot of movies playing. Of course, the big American ones had opened, Mummy 3, Hancock, Dark Knight, with Wanted opening in a couple days. I decided to go and see Sky Crawlers, the new Mamoru Oshii film.

Sorry it’s been a while since I posted details of my travels. I was down on a small island in the Seto Inland Sea (the name of the straight that runs between the islands of Honshu and Shikoku) for a week with no computer. Then after a day trip to Iga it was time for my first week of work, and I immediately proceeded to get sick and spent pretty much any time not at work in bed. I’m better now, and finally feel up to doing some blogging.

So earlier this week I decided to treat myself and went out to Hakone where I visited a spa that was recommended to me by Kaitar. It was a complex with areas called Yunnesun and Mori no Yu. Yunnesun consisted of the title area and Yutopia. Yu means hot water, so it’s both accurate and a pun, classic Japanese humor.

Spike TV has announced that it will be airing the Movie Sequel to Afro Samurai, “Afro Samurai: Resurrection” In January 2009. They have also said that Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels) and Mark Hamil (Star Wars) will add their voices into the mix. Spike had originally aired Afro Samurai in the U.S. back in January 2007. Tonight Tuesday July 15th, PlayStation launches its online video download service for the PS3 and the PSP. At the E3 2008 press conference Sony Computer Entertainment announced that Funimation would be providing Anime titles to air for this service. Read more

Many of us have undoubtedly at one point or another wished ill for our employers. Such was the case for a twenty-nine year old Elementary teacher in Yokohama’s Tsurumi-ku. This teacher took out his frustrations by writing blogs on the Internet. In said blogs the teacher stated that he wanted to kill the Vice-Principal of his school. He also stated,  ”If a teacher is murdered, it will be me who’s responsible, for certain.” Read more

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the new Pokemon themed Shinkansen (bullet train) by the JR East company running here in Japan. Well today I took a trip on it. It was the Asama Shinkansen between Tokyo and Nagano. We start off with a pic of good old Pikachu and the fire monkey (names will not be included other than Pikachu because I don’t know them. If you care look it up yourself).

Forty-Nine year old Tadashi Usami was found dead in an empty swimming pool around six-twenty A.M. on Thursday Morning. His body was found face down in the pool of a residential neighborhood. Police believe that Usami was on his way home to his hotel when he stumbled into the back yard believing this was his home. Having been drinking for most of the evening with a colleague near JR Ebisu station, Usami being extremely intoxicated was unable to tell the difference between this house and his hotel. Alcohol is believed to be the main factor. Foul play is not suspected.

Well if you couldn’t guess it’s the special equipment edition of Evangelion 1.0 - you are not alone. It placed 4thon the oricon list of the top 50 dvd’s in Japan between December 24, 2007 and June 16, 2008. The special edition sold 263,395 copies, 219,000 of those were sold in the first week of its release. Read more
